HMS BELFAST

This website is about the Edinburgh-class light cruiser HMS Belfast, anchored on the River Thames in Central London. Every year over a quarter of a million visitors board HMS Belfast to discover life aboard a unique example of our naval history.

Named after the city of her birth HMS Belfast served with distinction during the Second World War, participating in arenas of warfare including the Battle of the Atlantic, the sinking of the German cruiser Scharnhorst and the D-Day landings. Today, HMS Belfast is the largest surviving Second World War naval vessel in Europe.

HMS Belfast is a permanent tribute to those fifty-thousand British naval personnel who lost their lives during the Second World War and serves to reminds us that we are forever in their debt. She performs an important role educating the sixty-thousand school children she receives each year.
