More details of plans for the QE2 emerge as her scheduled sailing for a Chinese shipyard nears. As reported in today's press the chairman of Dubai's Drydocks World, a Dubai Government-owned entity that in turn owns the QE2, has been speaking about the re-imagining of the liner as a luxury hotel in Asia.
Details of the timetable for the QE2 departing Dubai have been revealed. Following a "gala farewell sail off party" in Dubai on 18 October 2013, the QE2 will sail under her own power (her engines are currently undergoing maintenance) first to Signapore, where she is scheduled to arrive on 1 November. After three days she will depart for Hong Kong, for a further three days, before sailing on to an as yet unidentified Chinese shipyard.
The chairman of Dubai's Drydocks World is reported as saying "[with] the money we are going to spend it is going to be fantastic,". The QE2 will emerge from the refit in 2014 with 400-suites, ranging from 60 to 150 square metres in size. Her final destination has yet to be revealed.
