QE2 News 28-10-2012

Rumours circulating on the Internet suggest the QE2 may be heading to the scrapyard. According to 'The QE2 Story Forum' "ship brokers have been...contacted about the possible scrapping of a 300m[etre long] cruise ship based in [the] UAE". Given that no other former cruise ships are present in the Emirates, forum members have voiced serious concerns about the future of the QE2.

Back in July an announcement from Dubai stated that the "vessel will be moored...at Port Rashid and converted into a 300 room luxury hotel, with top quality lifestyle facilities". Yet within weeks, the Dubai Government replaced the entire Board of Directors of Istithmar World, owners of the QE2. Since then, news has been scarce, and no reports of work commencing in Dubai have surfaced.

Separately, Global Event Management (responsible for the 2012 New Year's event aboard the QE2 Dubai) posted a video of the New Year's event on their Facebook page with the caption "...lets get her [the QE2] operating full time, anyone interested to help?". Putting aside this confusion, nearly four years since her retirement to Dubai, a sustainable future use for the QE2 has yet to be found.
