Former master of the Queen Elizabeth 2 Captain Robin Woodall passes away, aged 78. Robin Woodall went to sea at the age of 16, joining the Merchant Navy. In 1960 he joined the Cunard Line serving aboard Cunard cargo ships before switching to passenger ships, firstly as Junior Third Officer on the RMS Sylvania. He later joined the QE2 as a Junior Officer and became Captain in 1987. In 1990 Captain Woodall was master of the QE2 for her first sailing into Liverpool to celebrate 150 years of the Cunard Line.

Speaking to the QE2 Story Forum in September 2009 Captain Woodall spoke of his time as Captain of the QE2. He described the QE2 as having "the best soul [and] character of any cruise ship I sailed on" and his proudest moments being appointed master of the QE2, sailing the QE2 into Liverpool for Cunard's 150th anniversary and hosting HM the Queen aboard the QE2.

Captain Woodall leaves two daughters and a son, his wife Eileen passed away 10 years ago. Captain Woodall's funeral will be held at 12pm on 1 May, at St Hildeburgh's Church in Hoylake, Merseyside, followed by a private cremation.
