QE2 News 14-12-2011

The Queen Elizabeth 2 is to host an exclusive New Year's Eve party at Port Rashid in Dubai. An invitation-only event, promising "an exceptional line up of international acts...to Royals, dignitaries, celebrities and VIPs" is to be held aboard the legendary former Cunard liner at her new home in Dubai. A small number of tickets will be available to members of the public, with a percentage of proceeds going to a local charity.

Speaking of the event, a spokesperson for Dubai, Leili Gerami, said "in the year in which the UAE celebrates turning 40, the QE2 also enters her 40s with a new lease of life in Dubai as a fabulous venue for a glittering start to 2012."

The black-tie event promises guests "gourmet food, captivating entertainers, [and a] magnificent laser and firework display". It will be the first time guests have been aboard the ship since the final farewell party aboard the QE2 on 26 November 2008. The ship has remained un-used in Dubai since her arrival, with the global recession stalling plans for her redevelopment as a hotel and tourist attraction.
