QE2 News 22-11-2011

Captain Ian McNaught is appointed Deputy Master and Executive Chairman for Trinity House. The final master of the QE2, Captain McNaught was sworn at a ceremony held in at the headquarters of Trinity House at Tower Hill in London on 22 November 2011. The meeting was chaired by HRH The Princess Royal, who serves as Master of the Corporation of Trinity House.

Ian McNaught joins as Deputy Master of the Corporation of Trinity House and Executive Chairman of the Lighthouse Authority after forty years at sea. During his career at sea he first joined the QE2 in September 1987 as a Second Officer later becoming Staff Captain in 1991. In April 2003 Captain McNaught became the QE2's twenty-first Master and the QE2's youngest master at the age of forty-eight.

Speaking of his new role, Captain McNaught commented "There is, I believe, no greater opportunity than this, to use all my maritime experience and expertise gathered during my career at sea". Trinity House looks after nearly 600 navigational aids: from lighthouses, to buoys and beacons, and the latest satellite navigation technologies.
