Proposals surface for the QE2 to return to Britain three years after she left these shores for Dubai. A story on the Captain Greybeard Mirror Newspaper blog reports that a Burnley-baed company, Out of Time Concepts, and Liverpool Vision, the city's regeneration company, have been discussing bringing the QE2 back to the UK, and berthing her at Liverpool.
Out of Time Concepts is run by John Chillingworth, who has served aboard the QE2 as Chief Engineer and carried out other land-based roles for the Cunard Line. More recently Mr Chillingworth has served as an advisor to Dubai World, acting as General Manager for the QE2 project in Dubai.
The report surfaced only a day after the chairman of Nakheel, Ali Rashid Lootah confirmed that the QE2 would be staying in Dubai, where an "up-to-date modern cruise terminal" is being developed, which Dubai believes "will be [a] better environment" for the QE2.
Separately, members of the QE2 Story Forum have been discussing a theoretical plan for the QE2 to be berthed in the King George V dry-dock in Southampton.
