Dramatic photographs show the moment the QE2 broke from her moorings in January. As reported on the SS Maritime website and the QE2 Story Forum, the QE2 broke from her moorings at her berth at Port Rashid during a violent sandstorm on 28th January. Photographs published today on the QE2 Story Forum show how the dramatic events unfolded.
The photographs show that as the QE2 lost her stern mooring ropes her stern drifted out into the harbour. Still attached by ropes at her bow, the QE2 was swung round by the 80 knot winds so that her bulbous bow, below her waterline, was seen to be resting against the dockside. The QE2 was reportedly secure against the dockside an hour later with no reported damage.
These photographs follow those also published on the QE2 Story forum website, showing three tugs moving the QE2 back to her inner berth at Port Rashid in Dubai.
The QE2 remains berthed in Dubai. No official news on her future has been made public for some considerable time.
