The QE2 breaks from her moorings at her berth at Port Rashid during a violent sandstorm. The SS Maritime site reports the dramatic news occurred on 28th January. During a severe sandstorm the QE2 broke from her moorings and drifted into the harbour. The story on the SS Maritime website states that a near collision with another ship was averted by the quick actions of a couple of tug masters.
Photographs on the QE2 Story forum website show three tugs moving the QE2 back to her inner berth at Port Rashid in Dubai. Other reports, including a blog on the Daily Telegraph website, corroborate a vicious sandstorm occuring at lunchtime Dubai time on 28th January.
In the absence of official confirmation from Dubai the news on the SS Maritime website is a plausible explanation for the photographs. It seems odd that the QE2 would be moved to and from the same berth for no apparent reason. The photographs on the QE2 Story Forum certainly confirm the QE2 being moved from mid-harbour in Port Rashid, what they don't show is how she got there. SS Maritime's story offers an explanation.
