QE2 News 01-01-2011

The QE2's bell rings in the new year aboard Cunard's newest ship, the Queen Elizabeth. During her 22-night 'A Caribbean Welcome' cruise, passengers aboard the Elizabeth saw in the new year with celebrations centred in the ship's Grand Lobby.

The Queen Elizabeth's master, Captain Julian Burgess, read the second verse of Alfred, Lord Tennyson's 'Ring Out, Wild Bells' before inviting the oldest and youngest crewmembers - waiter Rene Berten and stage crew member Ryan Tolley - to ring out the old year and ring in the New Year.

The QE2's bell stood for many years on D-Stairway Three Deck aboard the QE2. In the weeks before the Queen Elizabeth's maiden voyage on 12 October 2010 the bell was installed outside the Commodore Club, forward on Deck 10, aboard the new Cunarder.

Other historic items from the QE2 aboard the new Cunarder are the bust of The Queen and Royal Standard from the Queens Room, the silver model of the QE2 made by the jewellers Asprey from the Midship Lobby and the Builder's Plate from the Officer's Wardroom.
