Photographs of an "abandoned and unchanged" QE2 in Dubai appear in a British newspaper. The Daily Mail newspaper has published an article containing "never-before-seen" photographs aboard the QE2 in Dubai. The photographs show A-Stairway, the Yacht Club, Lido and Theatre. The article describes her as "empty", "haunted" and "forlorn".
Newspaper and website reports have continued to speculate about an impending sale of the QE2 as Dubai World seeks to divest itself of some of its trophy assets as it seeks to repay its outstanding debts. A spokesperson for Istithmar has confirmed "there are a number of options being considered for QE2".
An article by Travel Weekly about preservation of cruise ships quoted renowned shipping historian John Maxtone-Graham as saying the QE2's "form and character" would have been "completely alien and unrecognizable" if Dubai's plans had taken place and the recession was a "silver lining" as Dubai was unable to "implement their original scheme".
