After six months in Dubai the QE2 remains largely untouched as rumours about her future continue. Seemingly, after six month moored at Port Rashid in Dubai, apparently little has changed. Externally the red Cunard lettering beneath the bridge wings on either side of the ship has either been removed or painted out and her boot-top (the stripe marking her waterline) has been repainted.
Earlier reports from Dubai suggested that items from the ship, including uniforms and library books, had been removed from the ship. Other rumours circulate but nothing can be corroborated. The current worldwide economic recession is cited by many sources as contributing to the delay in work beginning. Nakheel report that her nine engines are cycled through to power the ship and her propellers turned to keep her in working order. With no plans in the public domain rumours continue to circulate on the Internet suggesting she will either be sold or scrapped. It is worrying time for the QE2 and not what anyone would have expected following her triumphant and emotional departure from Southampton.
