QE2 News 27-11-2008

Ownership of the QE2 is transferred from the Cunard Line to Nakheel during a ceremony in Dubai. The day after her arrival into Dubai from Southampton a ceremony took place on the bridge of the QE2.

It was an emotional moment as the Cunard flag was lowered for the last time, replaced by the flag of Nakheel. The moment marked the passing of over 39 years of unrivalled commercial service for the Cunard Line, as the line's longest serving vessel. Present were the Captain and officers of the QE2 and representatives of Cunard, Dubai and Nakheel.

Her captain for the final voyage, Captain Ian McNaught, then sounded the QE2's whistle, one second for each of her 39 years of service. It is unlikely her whistle will ever be heard again.

Following the ceremony it was reported that an anchor from the QE2 would be donated by Dubai to her former home port of Southampton.
