This section contains multimedia files of the RMS Queen Mary. The first set of files are panoramic views of the exterior of the ship moored in Long Beach, California taken aboard one of the many pleasure boats which operate in the harbour. These images convey the mammoth size of the liner and is the only way for visitors to the Queen Mary to view the exterior of the ship unobstructed by any dockside structures. The second set are two video files showing the sounding of the Queen Mary's whistles, or sirens, on the forward funnel. These are so powerful they are audible over a distance of ten miles, yet attuned in such a way as not to disturb the passengers on board and are barely audible within the ship. The Queen Mary's forward whistles - now driven by compressed air rather than steam - are sounded at ten, twelve, three and six o'clock every day.
